WeChat Gives Back To The Community of McGregor

In the spirit of Mandela Month, on the 15th  of July members of the WeChat team spent their 67 minutes giving back to the community.

Tools and bicycles  worth over R150 000 were handed over to the Breede Centre situated in the small town of McGregor and Robertson, home of the Ride2Nowhere mountain bike race.

“Central to what we do at WeChat is making every day easier, and so it was prudent for us to not just get involved with McGregor at a superficial level but on a personal level as well.. That’s why we’ve decided to not limit our sponsorship of Ride2Nowhere, but to get involved with the community directly. That’s why we’ve chosen Breede Centre to be our partners.  ”

– Makhosazana Zwane-Siguqa, Head Of Content – WeChat Africa

The Breede Centre is a NGO that offers free training to community members to assist in the upliftment of community participation as well as help drive entrepreneurship and assist in creating job opportunities.

The Centre first opened its doors in 2012 and now offers a number of training courses to community members including woodwork, computer training, architecture and culinary training. Thanks to the WeChat Africa team, Mountain Biking has now been added to their list of training programmes.

WeChat’s donation will help support and assist in keeping up the amazing work that the Breede Centre is doing in McGregor to help counter the high unemployment rate.

In addition, WeChat will also be supporting a team of young mountain biking team from the community at this year’s Ride2NoWhere mountain biking competition.

Be sure to follow @WeChatZA, @RideToNowhere1 as well as our official #RideToNowhere team @TeamWeChatMTB for a full update on their training progress.
